“Lies were told!” “People will only remember this because Mister Guardiola has much more power than me”-Man City LoaneeCancelo has opened up on his exit from Man City and what exactly went down. Safe to say he won’t be returning when his loan ends this summer
In a very angry interview with Portuguese media, Joao Cancelo lashed out at Manchester City and Pep Guardiola. He didn’t hold back at all.
At the moment, the 29-year-old fullback is on loan at Barcelona for the season. His last game for City was in January of last year.
Cancelo and Guardiola are said to have had a heated fight on the training ground because he wasn’t getting to play in games because Nathan Ake and Rico Lewis were picked ahead of him.
On January 31, 2023, he would join Bundesliga team Bayern Munich. This was a surprising choice for many because City had sold Oleksandr Zinchenko the summer before.
A story said Cancelo’s body language wasn’t up to Guardiola’s standards because he has a “no bad faces policy” at City. He was also upset that he wasn’t getting enough playing time.
His coworkers also thought he wasn’t paying attention in tactical talks or when they told him what to do.
Since he left, Cancelo has talked to many media sources about why he left Manchester City to play regularly for the first team.
But his latest interview with the Portuguese newspaper A Bola may have been the craziest one so far. He fought back against claims that he acted badly when he wasn’t picked for the team.
The Guardian says Guardiola decided Cancelo had to be moved out because he didn’t like how he acted when he got less playing time.
When those charges were made, he said, “Lies were told!”
“Ask Nathan Ake or Rico Lewis—I’ve never been a bad teammate for them.” Even though I don’t think I’m better or worse than them, that’s what the boss thinks.
It’s not true, so I stayed. They said that, but I think they were being rude because I was a very important person for them while I was there. I never broke my promise to the people and the club. I always gave everything I had. Someone broke into my house and attacked me one time. The next day I played Arsenal at the Emirates.”
Cancelo said, “These are things you don’t forget. I was scared and left my wife and daughter at home alone.” People will only remember this because when Mr. Guardiola says something, he has a lot more power than me, and I like to keep to myself.
“I would rather know that I’m telling the truth; I’m happy with what I did.” People can see right through me; I never lie. Things move on, and I hope everything goes well because I liked football and the team while I was there. They are still the favourite to win the Champions League.
The Portugal player was also asked if he thought he would be moved out twice.
“No, I really didn’t think so, but I live my life by the moment,” he stated. Some things meant that I had to go on loan to Bayern Munich last year. Even if City won the Champions League, I don’t feel bad about what I did.
I think I made the right choice when I went to a club that really wanted me, even before I signed a new deal. During the six months I spent at that club, I learned a lot.
“I worked with great players, and the club is amazing.” Then I moved here and got paid less, and it doesn’t worry me at all. I was going to come to Barcelona for the third time, and now I’m here.”
