“It was very obvious that he never wanted him but the club forced him to, now he has become a very big flop. Erik ten Hag was right afterall”- Gary Neville highlights the Manchester United player whom Erik ten Hag was compelled to sign

Gary Neville says that Manchester United had to sign Sofyan Amrabat during the summer transfer window. When the player arrived at Old Trafford on September 30, the transfer deadline day, it was thought that he would help Erik ten Hag’s team.

Amrabat, a player for Morocco’s national team, was brought in on loan for £8.5 million, with Manchester United still having the chance to pay £21.4 million to make the deal permanent.

As of now, the 27-year-old has played 17 times for United this season. Even though he wasn’t playing because he was in the Africa Cup of Nations, Amrabat came back to Ten Hag’s team for the game against Manchester United. However, while he was away, young playmaker Kobbie Mainoo was able to shine.

Mainoo, who is 18 years old, has quickly become a star at Manchester United. His big break came when he scored a goal against Newport in the FA Cup. The next game, against Wolves in the Premier League, he scored the game-winning goal that earned United three important points. For Ten Hag, Mainoo has become a regular in the middle of the pitch since Amrabat got hurt.

Neville, a former Manchester United defender who is now a commentator, said that the club knew about Mainoo’s skills long before Amrabat joined. He said that Mainoo’s injury was the reason why Manchester United wanted to sign Amrabat from Fiorentina.

Neville said, “To be fair to Ten Hag, I asked about the need for another central midfielder during the summer transfer window.” At the time, Amrabat was connected to them, but they said they wouldn’t have gone after anyone else if Mainoo hadn’t been hurt.

His peers have also noticed how important Mainoo is. Rasmus Hojlund, who joined United for £72 million, said that Mainoo was becoming more well-known in the team.

Even though he missed preseason because he had to go to the airport, Hojlund admitted that Mainoo was getting a lot of attention from his peers and called him a “generational talent” with a great body and mature personality.

After Mainoo’s game-winning heroics, Hojlund praised his calmness and skill on the field, pointing out how talented he is for being only 18 years old. When Mainoo came on the scene, Manchester United’s midfield got a very good young player who has quickly won the respect and admiration of both teammates and football experts.
