It has been confirmed by Famous Club that they will finalize the signing of Mason Greenwood before the end of the transfer window this morning
Greenwood moved to Spain on transfer deadline day on an initial season-long loan deal, after United reversed their decision to reintegrate him into the first team squad following dropped allegations of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour, and has seven goals in 13 appearances to date.
The 22-year-old’s contract with United expires in 2025, with the option to extend for another year, although the club was considering a free transfer away before his temporary move to Getafe.
Getafe president Corres has now stated that the club “believes” in Greenwood and is looking at methods to make his stay at the club permanent.
“We have not discussed price. We have discussed looking into the situation and seeing what they suggest because there has also been a change in shareholding at Manchester [United],” he told reporters, according to The Athletic.
“But we’re still pleased with the meetings and videoconferences we have with them. It is still too early to consider either continuing for another season or that they will propose a price and we will commit to the entire [contract] since we have a percentage and will purchase the remainder.
“I believe strongly in Greenwood. From here, we will continue to work and meet with Manchester [United] to see whether they are satisfied.
The truth is that they are pleased with the treatment, not only from Getafe fans, but also from throughout Spain. Now we have to keep defending him.
“He hasn’t played in 16 months, but I believe he’ll be able to find his rhythm in January or February. “He will satisfy us.”
90min hears that Greenwood is enjoying life in Spain and is pleased with how things are going, with his performances gaining attention from elsewhere. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid have all seen Greenwood in action at some stage, while Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also keeping an eye on things.
A return to United is not entirely out of the question, but no definitive decision will be made on whether Greenwood remains or quits until Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment is established and the club’s new footballing department is appointed.
