‘I give you this week to pack your things and leave ‘: Manchester United New owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has officially told £60m Man U star to leave this week or His contract will be terminated just as He did to the likes of Ronaldo and Sancho after causing the goal Vs Fullham today.
With the benefit of hindsight, Harry Maguire admits he could have fouled Adama Traore to prevent Fulham from scoring the winner against Manchester United.
Maguire scored in the 89th minute to tie the game 1-1 against Fulham, and nine minutes of injury time were extended, forcing bodies forward in search of a winner.
The Old Trafford crowd backed United to complete a spectacular comeback victory, but the chase for a goal backfired as Traore burst forward and found Alex Iwobi at the other end. Maguire had the opportunity to foul Traore, and a cynical challenge would have likely saved a loss.
Maguire had already been booked earlier in the game, and knocking Traore down would have resulted in his dismissal, although the points would have been shared.
He told MUTV after the game, “At the start of the second half, we lost Casemiro, which set us back as well. We struggled to find our rhythm for the first 15 or 20 minutes, and they took a well-deserved lead.
“It was a very soft goal to concede again; we knew they were strong in set-plays from the first half.” We did everything we could to get back in the game, and we earned the equaliser.
“We believed we could win the game, but in the end, we arguably threw too many bodies forward, leaving the middle of the pitch open.
“They’ve punished us with a clinical counterattack. In retrospect, we can all sit here and say we should have been more cautious, that we were too naive; we can go back and, I’m sure, analyse where we can improve.
“They’re bringing on a guy [Traore] with fresh legs, and it’s fortunate that the ball falls to him, as we know he’s good at it. I was on a booking, and in retrospect, I probably should have just brought him down, but then you miss next week [due to suspension].
“It’s easy to say now, but losing the game was disappointing.” The lads gave their everything, and their reaction when we were down 1-0 was fantastic.”
When questioned about his thoughts on the winning goal, Erik ten Hag responded diplomatically. “They had a throw-in and we didn’t take the right positions,” that’s what he stated. “Actually, one player didn’t take the right position, but we should coach, put him in the right position, so they can’t escape out of the corner.”
