Arsenal has recently received encouraging news regarding their pursuit of Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven in the ongoing transfer window. Bakayoko, a Belgian international, had an impressive 2023/24 season with PSV, netting 14 goals and providing 14 assists in 48 appearances.

Given his outstanding performance, speculation has arisen about Bakayoko’s readiness for a new challenge, with Arsenal emerging as a prominent contender for his signature, surpassing even Liverpool in the race. PSV is prepared to part with Bakayoko for £38 million. The 21-year-old’s recent statements could further incentivize Arsenal to intensify their efforts to secure him.

In an interview with Voetbal International, Bakayoko expressed his desire to join a club that competes vigorously in the Champions League and contends for titles each season. He remarked, “I exclude many clubs from my considerations. My ambitions are high, and I am not interested in teams that are mid-tier. I am thriving here, so I will only leave PSV for a team that is in contention for trophies.”

Bakayoko continued, “I aspire to join a club that can advance as far as possible in the Champions League and competes for the title every season, where I can continually improve.” He also noted that while now might be an opportune moment for a transfer, it could also be considered next year.

For Arsenal, the pursuit of Bakayoko seems increasingly pertinent. The team has finished as runners-up in the Premier League for the past two seasons, narrowly losing out to Manchester City by just two points in the most recent campaign. This summer, Arsenal has yet to add any new outfield players, prompting fans to anticipate new acquisitions. A winger to complement Bukayo Saka should be a priority.

Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao has been identified as a potential target, but he appears more inclined towards joining Barcelona, who are actively negotiating with him. Thus, focusing on Bakayoko could be more advantageous for Arsenal.

Bakayoko’s performance last season, with 28 goal contributions, coupled with his adept skills, including completing 2.8 dribbles per game and winning five duels, alongside an 87 percent passing accuracy, makes him a valuable addition. Securing Bakayoko would bolster Arsenal’s right wing position, providing much-needed competition and depth to support Saka.
