Manchester United will reportedly turn down Getafe’s offer to keep Mason Greenwood on loan for a second season as the club seeks to cash in on the youth star. The La Liga team has held negotiations about keeping Greenwood this summer, but United plans to bring him back before a final sale.

On deadline day last summer, Getafe signed the 22-year-old forward on a season-long loan, deciding that his future would be better served away from Old Trafford.

He is allegedly enjoying life away from the spotlight in Spain, where he relocated with his partner, Harriet, and became a father last July.

Greenwood has 24 La Liga games with Getafe, scoring six goals and five assists while creating 23 opportunities.

The former United No. 11’s performances have apparently sparked strong interest in his signing, especially from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

Getafe is also thought to be interested in extending Greenwood’s loan until the end of next season, and has spoken with United about the potential.

However, The Sun reports that the Red Devils are unwilling to sanction another loan, and that if the club decides to sell Greenwood, the focus would be on a permanent move.

It is still unclear whether he has been sold. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United’s co-owner, has not ruled out a return, indicating that a “fresh” decision will be taken in due course.

“It’s evident we need to make a decision. No decision has been taken. “He’s on loan, obviously, but he’s not the only one,” Ratcliffe said in February.

“We have one or two footballers we need to deal with and make a decision on, therefore we will do so.

“The procedure will be to first comprehend the facts, not the hype, and then try to make a fair judgement based on values.
