Fabrizio Romano claims Todd Boehly warned Pochettino before the 27th match against Crystal Palace. Todd Boehly advised Pochettino to improve his strategy for this vital match because a loss would terminate his contract Stanford Bridge. Win or be fired
The new ownership group has promised to improve Chelsea, but manager Mauricio Pochettino will have to prove his team has improved from the previous campaign. It occurs while the Blues, who have had a string of uneven Premier League performances and outcomes, are still struggling in the middle of the table.
The most recent result was a 2-1 loss on the road against Wolves, meaning the west London team would be in tenth place on Christmas Day and might even be lower when they play Crystal Palace. The home team prevailed thanks to goals from Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty, even though Christopher Nkunku scored his first goal while wearing Chelsea colours.
As the players went to thank them for their support, the irritation from the away end was evident because their issues in both boxes were affecting their performance. Naturally, we’re really disappointed, said Pochettino. “I believe we should have won many more, but we can’t deny that in a league as competitive as the Premier League, you can’t be clinical and then whine about the outcome.
In the first half, we had plenty of opportunities to score, but we couldn’t. We controlled the ball and prevented Wolves from getting any shots on goal in the first half, so I believe the result should have been different at halftime. We gave up a few of corners in the second half, which let Wolves take the lead. They were more clinical, which is why the current outcome exists.”
As the team continues to struggle, the loss has raised many more rumours about Pochettino’s possible dismissal. Given their pledge to make reforms when they address the supporters in the summer, it is unclear how patient the new owners will be.
On the club website, they stated, “We are fully committed to our club’s long-term and sustainable prosperity as well as keeping the promise we made to you. “We take this responsibility very seriously and are aware of the enormous potential that Chelsea FC still has to develop. Everyone who works here is utterly committed to moving us ahead.
“It is obvious that our men’s team has had a dismal season and that we can and will improve in many areas. Despite all of the difficulties of the previous year, we have hope for the future. When Mauricio Pochettino takes over as our men’s team’s head coach in July, we eagerly anticipate his arrival.”
When compared to the table from the previous season, Pochettino’s record doesn’t appear to be any better at this point in the season. The squad was ranked 11th with 39 points from 29 Premier League games before Graham Potter was fired; as of right now, they are ranked 10th with 22 points from 18 games.
It implies that if the head coach makes it through the 29 games of the season without improving upon those 39 points, the ownership’s pledge will be breached, and there may be a valid justification for his or her termination. Potter has seven wins, seven draws, and eight losses in 22 games as a Chelsea player in the top division, compared to Pochettino’s current stats of six wins, four draws, and eight losses from 18 games.
Given the high transfer market spending and the lack of Europe, there will be obvious concern for the ownership if there is no development.
