Erig Ten Hag broke down in tears after Key Manchester United player who was supposed to be the main man against Manchester City in the FA Cup Final broke his angle in training this morning

Erik ten Hag revealed that the prospect of competing in the FA Cup final has spurred certain Manchester United players to recover fitness.

United’s squad was so weak at the start of the month that 11 players missed the 4-0 hammering at Crystal Palace, when Ten Hag placed two goalkeepers on the bench and five youth players who had never started before.

In a season in which United has had 65 incidences of sickness or illness that have forced a player to miss a game, only three players are out for Saturday’s final against Manchester City.

Tyrell Malacia has been sidelined for the entire season owing to a knee injury, Luke Shaw hasn’t played since February 18 due to a hamstring issue, and Harry Maguire has been out for the previous three weeks due to a muscle ailment.

Ten Hag stated that Victor Lindelof, Mason Mount, and Anthony Martial are all eligible for selection this weekend. Lindelof has been out for eight weeks with a hamstring injury, Mount has started twice in seven months, and Martial last played on December 30.

Martial will be freed next month, and United intend to sell Lindelof, while Mount has had a disappointing debut season following his £60 million signing.

The joint-highest number of injuries United has recorded in a month was ten in November and April. Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Marcus Rashford returned from layoffs last week in victories over Newcastle and Brighton.

Varane, Lindelof, and Martinez were injured during a five-day period in March and April, and United indicated at the time they were confident the trio would be able to play again in May. Martial is seven weeks behind schedule for his comeback following groin surgery in late January.

United experienced four injuries in May, with Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes sidelined for barely a week. “It will surely inspire players to compete in a cup final, and all of the players are eager for it,” Ten Hag said. “The expectations in this game will be severe, and you must play to your full potential.

“To participate and contribute in this game, you must be intellectually and physically fit. All of the players are aware of this and have previous experience.
