Coming from UEFA this morning VERY SAD NEWS has been announced for Manchester United after winning the FA cup against Manchester City, Manchester United will not Play UEFA Europa League next season
UEFA stated this morning that Manchester United will not play in the UEFA Europa League next season, despite winning the FA Cup against Manchester City.
As a consequence, Chelsea was relegated from the Europa League to the Conference League, while Newcastle was eliminated from any European play.
However, Manchester United may soon join the Blues in the third division of European football.
That is because Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s firm, Ineos, owns the French team Nice.
This season, the team qualified for the Europa League after placing fifth in France’s premier tier.
However, because Ratcliffe and co have now acquired a 27.7% share in Manchester United, the Old Trafford team may face complications under Uefa’s multi-club ownership regulations.
According to L’Equipe, Ineos’ share comes with a pledge to invest an additional £245 million in infrastructure projects, bringing its holding to more than 30 percent.
Passing this criterion would place Ineos in breach of ownership guidelines, resulting in one of the teams being demoted to the Conference League.
According to Article 5.01 b. of the UEFA regulations, no individual “may concurrently be involved, either directly or indirectly, in any capacity whatsoever in the management, administration, and/or sports performance of more than one club competing in a UEFA club tournament.”
This would have resulted in Manchester United being kicked out of European football completely.
