COMING FROM FABRIZIO ROMANO this Morning Very Sad news has been announced for Chelsea Manager Mouricio Pochettino this evening despite winning against Aston Villa
After taking over a squad that finished 12th last season, lost in the first round of both domestic club competitions, and scored only 38 league goals, Mauricio Pochettino had the freedom at Cobham and Stamford Bridge to toss out the good with the bad. It’s been just over six months since he was announced as the new ownership group’s third permanent CEO, and things haven’t gone well.
Chelsea has won only four of its first 13 Premier League games despite playing six in the bottom half. Although goalscoring is increasing, it has been helped by eight goals in two games prior to the international break, and allowed nine in the last three, with the Blues just keeping out Luton, Bournemouth, and Fulham.
With the most recent game, a dreadful 4-1 defeat at Newcastle marked by self-inflicted mistakes and general team underperformance, there has been a return to the reaction that had been building up during uneven spells in mid-October and previously. Despite the great performances over Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal, the Magpies rolled over a’soft’ Chelsea, according to Pochettino, and the manager is being attacked.
With a track record of improving players and building at clubs, there was hope that things would improve from last year, but patterns have remained consistent despite significant player and staff turnover. In this light, he has come under fire once more, with certain members of the ravenous fans becoming agitated.
Ultimately, he has only had 16 games in charge, but many will point to Thomas Tuchel last year and argue that he had even less of an opportunity under the new owners before being fired. To make matters worse, there is financial pressure to return to Europe, which appears to be a distant goal.
