Coming from Fabrizio Romano this Evening VERY SAD NEWS has been announced for Manchester City after found guilty of breaching 115 financial Rules
Stefan Borson, a lawyer who used to work as a financial advisor for Manchester City, says that the Blues will be relegated if they are found guilty of the 115 financial wrongdoing charges brought against them by the Premier League.
While he did say that City is very unlikely to be found guilty, he also said that many other people have been accused of helping to cover up the crimes. Between 2009 and 2018, the charges say that City provided illegal funds and did not work together, which City denies.
This week, both Nottingham Forest and Everton were accused of breaking the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability rules. It was said that both teams had lost more than £30 million over three seasons.
Everton have already been docked 10 points for breaking the league’s money rules in a different way. This case against City is very different from those against Forest and Everton. Borson says that if an independent committee finds City guilty, there will be worse effects.
He told talkSPORT, “The scale is on a completely different level [to Everton and Forest].” “If those charges are proven, there is no doubt that this will end with at least relegation.” It looks like there was a plot going on for about 10 years.
“They (the Premier League) say that City’s main sponsorship deals are worth only £8m, not £50m or £60m, and that the whole thing was a lie.”
“That a lot of people lied, including executives from several companies, and that the club also lied to a lot of other people.” People with a lot of knowledge about the company, the league, UEFA, and the FA.
“If proven, this is very serious,” Borson said. That would be agreed upon by everyone. I promise that City will say this is a very serious accusation in their written statement, because they already told the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
UEFA said that City had done something wrong with their money, but in 2020, CAS overturned their two-year European ban. When you think about how big what the Premier League says and has to show is, Borson thinks the club will win again.
“I think they [City] will clear their name because I think a case like this needs a level of strong evidence that I don’t think a separate commission could accept,” he said.
“On top of that, it seems very unlikely that the behaviour in question happened over a 10-year period with the types of people who work at the club and the companies involved.”
“It doesn’t seem likely at all, and that’s where any independent commission will begin.” Any kind of quasi-court or commission will be making a big claim if they say that this many people have been dishonest and lied.
“That will be a huge call for some KCs and maybe a former finance director of a football club to make not only against Manchester City but also against many executives, some third-party people, and possibly senior members of foreign states.”
This week, Richard Masters, the head of the Premier League, said that a date has been set for the hearing by an independent group to hear the charges. However, he would not say when that date is.
Since this is the first case of this size and scope, it is not clear what fines could be given. However, it has been suggested that City could lose their titles if they are found guilty.
