Coming from Fabrizio Romano Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to become the new manager of European giants

Since leaving Manchester United in November 2021, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been connected with a variety of managerial vacancies.

The Norwegian tactician’s most recent rumoured option is at Besiktas, which recently parted ways with manager Riza Calimbay.

According to NTV Spor, conversations between Besiktas and Solskjaer have begun over Solskjaer succeeding Calimbay.

Besiktas is in a critical condition, lying sixth in the Super Lig league and having gone winless in domestic competitions.

Recent defeats to Alanyaspor and Fenerbahce, as well as a humiliating 5-0 setback to Club Brugge in the Europa Conference League, have highlighted the need for a change at the top.

Solskjaer began his coaching career with Manchester United’s Under-21 side in 2008, before moving to his native Norway to coach Molde three years later.

He had a brief and controversial stay at Cardiff City in 2014 before returning to Molde in 2015. However, his appointment as caretaker manager of Manchester United in December 2018 catapulted him into the spotlight.

Despite initially taking over on a caretaker basis, Solskjaer’s transformative impact on the team resulted in his permanent hiring in March 2019.

During his time at Manchester United, Solskjaer was praised for his effective man-management abilities and good record in important games.

However, criticism grew over his failure to deliver trophies to the club, despite substantial expenditures in key players like as Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, and Jadon Sancho in the summer of 2021.

The inability to capitalise on these signings eventually led to Solskjaer’s resignation early in the 2021/22 season.

Following his departure, Ralf Rangnick took over as interim manager for the rest of the season, with Solskjaer apparently providing honest appraisals of the players to help with the transition.

Erik ten Hag was named Manchester United’s permanent manager in April 2022, ushering in Solskjaer’s departure from Old Trafford.

As speculation swirls about his probable move to Besiktas, Solskjaer remains an intriguing figure in the football world, with fans and commentators alike eagerly anticipating his next managerial destination.
