Chelsea’s most recent attempt demonstrates they haven’t grown from their recent transfer mistakes.

Conor Gallagher’s possible departure from Chelsea this summer has stirred ongoing speculation, hinting that the club might be inclined to offload him. Despite his regular appearances in Premier League matches and occasional captaincy roles, it seems Gallagher’s future at Stamford Bridge might not extend beyond the short term.

Last summer, Chelsea enriched their midfield choices with signings such as Moises Caicedo, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Romeo Lavia. Additionally, internal prospects like Cole Palmer, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Christopher Nkunku could potentially step into Gallagher’s midfield role.

There are murmurs suggesting Chelsea’s contemplation of further midfield reinforcements, with Bruno Guimaraes, Frenkie de Jong, and Vitinha from Paris Saint-Germain emerging as potential targets. However, opting for Vitinha might not be the wisest move for Chelsea, despite his technical abilities.

Given Chelsea’s significant investments in midfield talents like Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, adding another diminutive midfielder like Vitinha might not effectively address their needs, particularly their aerial dominance deficiency. While prospects like Ugochukwu could potentially remedy this issue, they might not be prepared to displace Fernandez or Caicedo at this juncture.

Moreover, Chelsea’s midfield roster already boasts strength, featuring Fernandez, Caicedo, Lavia, Ugochukwu, and Chukwuemeka, alongside versatile options like Palmer and Nkunku. Instead of allocating funds towards another midfielder like Vitinha, Chelsea could prioritize bolstering their medical department to tackle recurring injury concerns and focus on strengthening other positions, such as left-back and acquiring a top-tier striker.

Pursuing Vitinha would not only entail unnecessary expenditure but also signal Chelsea’s propensity to repeat past transfer errors by saturating one position while neglecting other vital areas on the field.
