Chelsea Star Enzo Fernandez has finally spoken after being out for the rest of the season by injury

Chelsea player Enzo Fernandez has stated that surgery for a season-ending groin injury was a success.

The 23-year-old was ruled out of the Blues’ last six games after receiving surgery for a muscular problem that the midfielder says has been bothering him since October.

Fernandez, who became the most expensive player in Premier League history when he joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023, admitted that the decision to end his season early and undergo surgery was made after the pain became “more and more intense” to the point where he couldn’t “stand it anymore.”

On Friday, Fernandez took to Instagram to inform that the operation was a success and that his return to activity would see him “stronger than before.”

“My procedure was a success, thank God. “I needed this procedure since I had been lugging the agony for almost six months,” Fernandez stated.

“I was able to prevent it by regularly treating myself with injections and drugs. But a few weeks ago, the pain began to grow greater and more terrible, without any consequence. It was getting worse as I trained and played, but I didn’t want to quit playing.

“I always give my all whether I play for Chelsea or the national team, but I can’t take it anymore.”

“I appreciate the words, support, and tokens of love you consistently send. Shout out to everyone; I pledge to come back stronger than before.

At his pre-match news conference on Friday, Mauricio Pochettino backed Chelsea’s choice to let Fernandez have surgery and miss the last few games of the season.

“Enzo Fernandez is in discomfort; he was not playing under normal circumstances, therefore the most important thing is to cure the issue,” Pochettino stated. “If he is unable to perform, it will be detrimental to us, the club, and everyone.”
