Chelsea owner Todd Boehly to be replaced as Chelsea chairman Next Summer but may return in unique deal it has been confirmed by Fabrizo Romano this evening.

Chelsea will replace Todd Boehly as chairman in 2027, according to an agreement with Clearlake Capital.

After purchasing the club in 2022, Clearlake Capital and the American co-owners agreed that the chairmanship would rotate every five years.

The Blues have now chosen to trigger that option as soon as possible, at the end of the 2026/27 season.

Boehly was designated the first chairman of the business as part of its takeover in 2022, despite only owning a minority interest.

Clearlake Capital, led by Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano, owns 61.5% of the company, while Boehly, Hansjorg Wyss, and Mark Walter share the remaining 38.5%.

While Boehly is slated to be removed from his position in 2027, there is a condition that allows the American billionaire to return as chairman in 2032, at the end of the next five-year cycle.

However, the American is said to be growing increasingly distant from Clearlake Capital, which appears to be making the decisions at Stamford Bridge.

According to reports, Boehly’s group owns ‘common stock’, while majority shareholders Clearlake Capital own ‘preferred stock,’ which provides financial security.

While no new chairman has been chosen before 2027, either Eghbali or Feliciano could take over the role directly, or someone else be appointed to the position.

No decision has been made on whether or not this will occur, but Boehly will be removed from his position.

However, given the agreement to exchange chairmanships every five years, Boehly might retake the role in 2032.

However, he and his gang might nominate a chairman instead.

Simon Jordan criticises Chelsea Supporters’ Trust for sending a letter to the club’s owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, about how the club is run.
There is no schism between Boehly and Clearlake; on the contrary, any major decision requires both signatures from Boehly and Eghbali, who are on friendly terms.

However, the fact that such a choice is being made suggests that they believe there is still opportunity for growth at Chelsea.

Boehly, who also owns 20% of the Los Angeles Dodgers, has recently sparked outrage among Chelsea fans.

As possibly the most visible face of the present ownership, Chelsea fans have chanted against his management of the club, and he has faced media criticism.

Eghbali, on the other hand, has remained mostly in the background but is as, if not more, involved in the day-to-day operations of the London firm.

Chelsea is presently 11th in the Premier League, after finishing 12th previous season, and reported pre-tax losses of £90.1 million earlier this month.
