Chelsea Manager Mouricio Pochettino has been sacked this evening by Chelsea Board after loosing 5-0 to Arsenal
Mauricio Pochettino expressed dissatisfaction with Chelsea’s lack of competitiveness in their 5-0 defeat against Arsenal, lamenting that his team “did not fight” during the match. The game at the Emirates saw the north London side swiftly take the lead with Leandro Trossard’s early goal at the near post. Although Chelsea occasionally threatened on the counterattack, Arsenal remained dominant, with Ben White and Kai Havertz both scoring braces in the second half to secure a commanding victory under Mikel Arteta’s management.
Despite Chelsea’s sporadic attempts to break through, it was Arsenal who consistently created the better opportunities, eventually extending their lead through White and Havertz’s goals early in the second half. This comprehensive win propelled Arsenal three points ahead of Chelsea in the Premier League standings, relegating the latter to ninth place. Pochettino, visibly disappointed with his team’s performance, particularly criticized their lackluster start to the second half.
Reflecting on the match during an interview with TNT Sports, Pochettino pinpointed Chelsea’s sluggish start as a key issue, stating, “I think we started the game not so well. We gave up the goal, and it was hard for us to get back on track after that.” He emphasized the importance of improving their second-half performance, acknowledging the need for a different approach after halftime. Despite some signs of improvement as the game progressed, Pochettino’s frustration was evident, underscoring the urgency for Chelsea to address their shortcomings and bounce back stronger in future matches.
