Chelsea FLOP has just left Stanford Bridge Stadium this evening to join Totheham Huspor on a loan deal and buy clause of £15m

The former Chelsea attacker joined Spurs on loan earlier this week, with the agreement set to last until the end of the season.

Werner, 27, played two seasons at Stamford Bridge, scoring 29 goals in 83 appearances.

While Werner’s brilliance was undeniable, he was frequently chastised for poor finishing in front of goal.

However, with Son Heung-Min away at the Asia Cup, Ange Postecoglou moved quickly to capture the German, and the club has the option to buy him for £15 million at the conclusion of the season.

And Berbatov believes Werner has a chance to prove his detractors wrong if he can improve his finishing.

‘I believe it’s a surprising signing, to be honest, I didn’t expect it,’ Betfair Ambassador Berbatov told Metro.co.uk.

“It’s a move that the club was planning long before the transfer window opened.” Now that he’s back in England, one of two things can happen: either he’ll show everyone “I’m back and I’m better than before,” or it won’t work out.

‘Let’s hope for the sake of the squad that Timo will be a better player than he was at Chelsea, especially in front of goal, because he was getting into goalscoring opportunities but lacked the finishing touch. If he can improve on that, he’ll be a fantastic asset to the squad.’

Spurs’ style of play has improved dramatically under Postecoglou, following spells under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Only Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Liverpool have scored more goals in the Premier League this season than Spurs, and Postecoglou’s side is only three goals behind league leaders City.

Berbatov believes Werner’s propensity of running in behind is ideal for players like James Maddison.

‘That run in behind the defender is a terrific weapon to have,’ Berbatov added.

‘If you are clever and have the speed, because you might have the speed but be foolish and not know what to do. To explore the gap behind the defenders and recognise where the space is, you must be quick, fast, and cunning.

‘He has other players on the team who can pass the ball to him, so perhaps he can score and assist. I think he’s a fantastic addition to the club, and I’m glad he didn’t join on the last day of the window. Let’s hope he’s fit and ready to join the club right away.’
