Chelsea decide the four players to sell this summer including one Todd Boehly signing

Chelsea is reportedly preparing to offload four players this summer to sidestep Financial Fair Play (FFP) issues. Since Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali took over ownership from Roman Abramovich in 2022, the club has splurged over £1 billion on transfers, yet success on the pitch has remained elusive. Their current Premier League position, languishing in 11th place, suggests that Mauricio Pochettino’s squad is unlikely to qualify for European competition for the second consecutive season.

Off-field challenges compound their woes. The Telegraph indicates that Chelsea’s rivals speculate the need for the club to generate nearly £100 million by June’s end to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules. These regulations cap losses at £105 million over three years, with each financial year concluding on June 30.

Although Chelsea has raked in nearly £100 million this fiscal year from player sales, including notable names like Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic, their spending spree exceeds £448.5 million, leaving a shortfall of over £200 million this year alone. Despite rumors of Chelsea’s intention to offload Marc Cucurella, Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, and Armando Broja, sources within the club refute any urgency to raise funds before the June 30 deadline.

While Chelsea’s expenditure is scrutinized, recent transfers provide a lifeline. Newcastle’s acquisition of Lewis Hall guarantees Chelsea £28 million, and Romelu Lukaku’s loan deal includes a potential £30 million windfall through a release clause. Moreover, the club has demonstrated swift money-making capabilities, as evidenced by last year’s sales, which netted nearly £130 million before June 30, 2023. Players like Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, Mateo Kovacic, Kai Havertz, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek contributed to this lucrative turnover.
