Chelsea and England Star has been dropped from England’s Euros 2024 Squad, Gareth Southgate has been Ruthless
Two more players are reportedly set to be excluded from England’s final 26-man squad for Euro 2024. Gareth Southgate initially selected a provisional 33-man squad, but seven players will be cut when the final team is announced.
It was revealed on Wednesday night that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison will not be part of the Three Lions’ squad this summer. This news comes after much speculation. The 27-year-old Maddison played in England’s 3-0 friendly victory over Bosnia and featured in 28 Premier League games under Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou last season. Despite his contributions, Maddison will not travel to Germany with the final squad. Notably, he was part of the Qatar 2022 World Cup squad but did not get any playing time during the tournament.
Reports also indicate that Curtis Jones is among those who will miss out. Jones, who played 36 games across all competitions for Liverpool last season, has been informed by Southgate that he will not be included in the summer squad. Additionally, The Daily Mail suggests that another Liverpool player, Jarell Quansah, is also likely to be excluded.
Southgate has expressed his appreciation for Quansah, who has earned recognition as one of the top full-backs in football. “We were really thrilled,” Southgate commented after the Bosnia match. He praised Quansah’s development, stating, “Since I first discussed the position with him about a year ago, he has been eager to learn and is still finding it. Additionally, what we have witnessed over the previous 30 minutes is a significant option for us.”
Southgate emphasized the need for versatility and strategic planning in the upcoming tournament. “We will face various challenges in this tournament, and we will need different methods to address the problems that teams will present to us,” he continued.
