“As a Premier League legend, I will like to say the truth, this player is nothing but a trash here and doesn’t even deserve an Arsenal jersey at all,” Rio Ferdinand reveals the lone Arsenal player that needs to be sold in order for Arsenal glory days to come.
Eddie Nketiah’s potential transfer to Marseille has been called off after the French club decided to pursue a different striker, ending a prolonged negotiation involving the Arsenal forward. Marseille, under the leadership of their new manager Roberto De Zerbi, had been keen to sign Nketiah to bolster their attack. De Zerbi, having already signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Mason Greenwood from the Premier League, sought to make Nketiah his third high-profile acquisition.
According to reports from France, personal terms had been agreed between Nketiah and Marseille, with Arsenal’s sporting director Edu and manager Mikel Arteta negotiating a transfer. However, talks stalled due to Arsenal’s initial £40 million price tag, which Marseille hesitated to meet. Although Edu later reduced the asking price, the deal unexpectedly collapsed.
Renowned French journalist Fabrice Hawkins reported that Marseille shifted focus to Elye Wahi, a striker from Lens, finalizing a deal for an initial fee of €25 million (£21.3 million) with additional bonuses. Wahi’s imminent signing effectively ended Nketiah’s chances of moving to Marseille.
This is also a setback for Arsenal, who were aiming to generate funds from Nketiah’s sale to finance other transfers, particularly Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad. Despite the failed move, Nketiah remains an appealing option for several clubs, including Premier League sides like Crystal Palace, Everton, and West Ham United. At 25, with a solid goal-scoring record, he is likely to attract further interest.
