“Arteta is a good coach but sometimes behave like a baby…why always benching the best in Premier League”: Ian Wright slams Mikel Arteta for always benching 25-year-old Arsenal superstar.
Aaron Ramsdale made his Champions League debut for Arsenal last night against PSV Eindhoven, and Reiss Nelson and Ian Wright congratulated him on Instagram.
The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw by the league leaders in the Netherlands. The game was meaningless because Mikel Arteta’s team had already qualified, but it was amazing to see Ramsdale finally receive a shot on Europe’s grandest stage.
Aaron Ramsdale makes his Champions League debut for Arsenal, and Reiss Nelson and Ian Wright react.
Aaron Ramsdale has had a tough season at Arsenal.
The 25-year-old began the season as the club’s uncontested number one, but he was dismissed by Mikel Arteta after just over a month.
Since then, David Raya has taken his place and started the majority of Arsenal’s games. He is now the starter, and Ramsdale has had to watch him from the bench more frequently than not.
Arteta opted to give Ramsdale his debut in Arsenal’s final Champions League group stage game yesterday, and the Englishman performed admirably.
He couldn’t help PSV’s goal, but he stepped up every other time he was called upon. It was wonderful to see him with a happy expression on his face.
Ramsdale celebrated his Champions League debut on Instagram after the game. Ian Wright’s response was a slew of heart emoticons.
“What a guy!” remarked Reiss Nelson.
Last night, Aaron Ramsdale looked good.
Dropping Aaron Ramsdale had an effect on him; you could see how much he lacked confidence in the game against Brentford a few weeks ago. In that fixture, he appeared to be a bundle of nerves.
However, Ramsdale appeared mostly calm and composed yesterday night.
The English custodian has always been outstanding. Many Arsenal supporters still believe he is head and shoulders above David Raya, but Mikel Arteta definitely does not.
However, Ramsdale did no harm to his image last night, and he demonstrated that he is more than capable of stepping up when called upon.
