Arsenal Gunners News

“Arsenal is building a team that no one will like to play against…I tried to sign him but he told me he’s an Arsenal fan, signing such player automatically made you undefeatable, I’m happy for them anyway”: Pep Guardiola reacts to Arsenal latest signing as player has ‘everything agreed’ to join Gunners.

Arsenal has emerged as the frontrunner in the pursuit of PSV Eindhoven forward Johan Bakayoko, surpassing Liverpool and Bayern Munich, reports Belgian outlet Gazet van Antwerpen. The Gunners are actively seeking to bolster their attacking options during this summer transfer window, aiming to strengthen their squad for a more competitive title challenge in the upcoming season. Bakayoko, a Belgium international, has long been a target for Arsenal, although formal negotiations with both the player and PSV are still pending, a deal appears within reach, with a potential transfer fee of around €45 million likely to persuade PSV to part ways with one of their key assets.

During the 2023-24 season, Bakayoko, aged 21, demonstrated his prowess by scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists in 33 league appearances. His contributions extended to the Champions League, where he added one goal and one assist in eight matches. Fellow Belgian footballer Romelu Lukaku recently lauded Bakayoko as ‘incredible,’ foreseeing the young forward surpassing his own achievements if he maintains his current trajectory.

Bakayoko primarily operates on the right wing, a position where he would face competition from Bukayo Saka should he join Arsenal. This competitive landscape could potentially influence Bakayoko’s decision, as securing a regular starting role may be a decisive factor in his career progression. This consideration poses a challenge for Arsenal, as they strive to secure Bakayoko’s signature amidst competition and ensure his integration into their squad dynamics.

Nevertheless, Arsenal remains resolute in their pursuit of Bakayoko, acknowledging his talent and the valuable depth he could bring to their attacking lineup. However, the inherent risk for a 21-year-old in terms of limited playing time cannot be overlooked, potentially impacting his decision-making process.

Currently, Bakayoko is participating in the European Championship with Belgium, having featured in 33 minutes of play thus far. He is expected to step in for the suspended Dodi Lukebakio in the upcoming match against Ukraine. This tournament provides Bakayoko with a platform to showcase his abilities to potential suitors, including Arsenal, who continue to monitor his performances closely as they deliberate their final decision regarding his acquisition.
