“Am happy with the president. I have a good relationship with him, I cannot lie-Victor Osimhen speaks out on Arsenal and Chelsea transfer speculation
The 25-year-old, who is presently on international duty with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, has established himself as one of Europe’s most lethal strikers, scoring 31 goals for Napoli last season.
His outstanding performances in front of goal helped Napoli win the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years last season, and have made him a target for Arsenal and Chelsea this month.
Mikel Arteta wants to bring a top-tier attacker to the Emirates to relieve the pressure on Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, while Mauricio Pochettino is frustrated with Nicolas Jackson’s lack of ruthlessness and feels Osimhen may be the guy to turn Chelsea’s fortunes around.
Brentford and England star Ivan Toney is also reportedly on the radar of both London clubs as they look for attacking additions to bolster their chances in the second half of the season.
However, it appears Arsenal and Chelsea may have to abandon their chase of Osimhen and go elsewhere, as the Nigeria international has told Sky Sports that he is ‘happy’ in Naples for the time being.
‘I am pleased with the president. I don’t lie, I have a really excellent relationship with him,’ Osimhen remarked.
‘He’s been with me since I signed with the club in 2020.
I have a wonderful relationship with his family as well. It is always crucial for me to ensure that the relationship with him and his family is in good standing, regardless of what has occurred.
‘He has been the type of president who has been supportive of me off the pitch, and of course, I will give my all to win the Scudetto for them.
‘It’s always crucial to have this type of relationship, to be satisfied with both the individual and the club owner.’
While Osimhen enjoys his life in Italy, he has not ruled out the prospect of moving to England if the opportunity arises.
‘Of sure, someday,’ Osimhen added.
But for the time being, I have other job goals that I am excited about. “When the time comes, everyone will know.”
Osimhen has seven goals in 13 league games this season, as Napoli sits sixth in their Scudetto defence.
The ex-Lille star scored in Nigeria’s first AFCON match at the weekend, equalising in a 1-1 draw with Group A rivals Equatorial Guinea.
