“Alex looked at me and said: ‘The answer’s yes.’” jubilation rocks old Trafford stadium as Sir Alex Ferguson has agreed to manage this shocking Premier League Club

Lord Sebastian Coe claims that Sir Alex Ferguson came close to managing Team GB’s men’s football team at the 2012 London Olympics.

The London 2012 Olympics began 11 years ago with Danny Boyle’s stunning opening ceremony at the London Stadium, formerly known as the Olympic Stadium.

Great Britain had not competed in football at the Olympics since 1974, but a decision was taken to establish a team for the home games.

Following early objections from the Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Irish FAs, a solution was struck for side GB to field a side made up entirely of English and Welsh players.

Coe, the leader of the 2012 organizing committee, claims he attempted to persuade Manchester United legend Ferguson to manage the team.

“We came really close. I came up with the concept when we were feeling vulnerable around our Celtic cousins.

It instantly struck to me that the one unifying factor in all of this would be having a non-English coach,” Coe told the Daily Mail.

“I didn’t tell anyone about it, but I called Bob Charlton and asked him, ‘Am I out to lunch here?’ He said, “No, I’ll tell Alex to call you.”

“Weeks passed by. I was in a Tesco in Cobham on a Friday night when I received a call. It was no ID day, and I was at the butter and fats counter when he remarked, “Seb, it’s Alex here.”

“I threw a wad of cash at one of my kids to keep loading the cart, saying, ‘This is the stuff for a long chat, I’m in the supermarket.'”

“I ran him through the notion, and he said, ‘Well, I don’t know.'” Then there was a pause, and he exclaimed, “Oh Jesus, I’m already picking the team in my thoughts.”

“I later attended the BBC year-end review, and Alex was present. Alex glanced at me and stated the answer was yes. I said, “Fine.”
