Ajax star reveals he rejected Man Utd transfer despite Erik ten Hag call

Brian Brobbey, a forward for Ajax, has revealed that Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, contacted him about a possible 2022 move to Old Trafford. After working with Ten Hag at Ajax, Brobbey said that Ten Hag told him about the advantages of joining Manchester United in terms of money and improved profits.

Even with the promise of large financial rewards, Brobbey and his representative, Jose Fortes Rodriguez, were committed to going back to Ajax.

“I insisted on returning to Ajax,” Brobbey said in an interview with Der Telegraaf, “even though Manchester United wanted to have me.” My agent Jose Fortes Rodriguez even surrendered a sizable portion of the sell-on clause to make that happen. The youthful forward emphasised that they made a definite decision to pick Ajax over Manchester United.

Following prior reports suggesting Manchester United was interested in hiring Brobbey, the player made his announcement. But instead, he decided to make a permanent return to Ajax, agreeing to a five-year contract worth an initial €16.35 million payment with the Dutch team.

The impending departure of Anthony Martial from Manchester United raises the possibility of Brobbey taking over as the underwhelming French forward’s replacement.
