Manchester City is poised to embark on a lucrative summer transfer spree, with Bayer Leverkusen duo Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong firmly in their sights. The Premier League champions, who splashed out a staggering £180 million in January, are reportedly willing to part with around £170 million to secure the services of the highly coveted pair.

Wirtz, a 21-year-old attacking midfielder, has been making waves in European football with his exceptional skillset and impressive statistics. With 56 goals and 62 assists in 186 appearances for Leverkusen, Wirtz is widely regarded as one of the continent’s most exciting young talents. Manchester City sees him as a potential long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, who is out of contract in the summer. However, the club will face stiff competition from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, who are also believed to be vying for Wirtz’s signature.

Frimpong, a 24-year-old right wing-back, has been on Manchester City’s radar for some time, having previously progressed through the club’s academy before being sold to Celtic in 2019. Since then, Frimpong has developed into one of Europe’s most formidable wing-backs, boasting an impressive tally of 28 goals and 43 assists in 175 appearances for Leverkusen. Manchester City is considering bringing Frimpong back to the Etihad, although Liverpool is also reportedly interested in securing his services as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

As Manchester City navigates the complexities of the summer transfer market, the club’s hierarchy remains resolute in its backing of manager Pep Guardiola. Despite facing allegations of breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules, Manchester City is poised to embark on a significant squad overhaul, with Wirtz and Frimpong at the forefront of the club’s recruitment plans.
