What happened?
According to various rumors, ex-Red Devils star De Gea, who has been a free agent for over a year, will join Serie A club Fiorentina this summer. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the custodian has apparently reached personal terms with the Italian club, lowering his pay demand to €2 million (£1.6 million/$2 million) per season.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The 33-year-old was previously connected with a transfer to fellow Serie A club Genoa, but the deal allegedly fell through owing to his ‘unrealistic financial demands’. Several Saudi Pro League and MLS clubs were also interested in signing players this summer, but none of the transactions came through.

The experienced goalkeeper joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has made 545 appearances for the Premier League giants, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, and a Europa League trophy.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Spaniard will arrive in Florence on Friday before officially finalizing his move to Italy. He will sign a one-year deal with the option to extend it for another 12 months.
