Chelsea has presented Nico Williams with a more attractive financial package compared to Arsenal, as the two London clubs compete for the Athletic Bilbao winger who has showcased his talents at Euro 2024 with the Spanish national team.

 

As reported by AS, both Chelsea and Arsenal are prepared to meet Williams’ €58 million release clause to secure his transfer this summer. Nonetheless, Chelsea has offered a substantially higher salary, proposing to triple his current earnings and pay him €15 million annually. Arsenal, on the other hand, is reluctant to match such a high wage and is reconsidering its approach.

 

Williams has become one of the most coveted players in Europe this summer, garnering interest from elite clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid. His exceptional performances at Euro 2024, particularly in wins against Croatia, Italy, and Georgia, have drawn significant attention. Notably, in the match against former champions Italy, Williams outperformed right-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo and contributed to the winning goal, which was an own goal by Riccardo Calafiori. Additionally, he scored a remarkable goal in the last-16 victory over Georgia.

 

The 21-year-old Williams, recognized for his remarkable speed and dribbling prowess, has a €58 million release clause in his contract with Athletic Bilbao. Since his debut for the club in 2021, he has netted 20 goals in 122 appearances. On the international stage, he has scored three goals in 17 appearances for Spain and was part of the squad for the 2022 World Cup. His brother, Inaki Williams, is also a prominent player for Athletic Bilbao and represents Ghana internationally.

 

Williams is scheduled to play again on Friday as Spain takes on Germany in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals.
