Former Manchester United Star Player Paul Scholes will start training with former team this week ahead of stunning football return!
Paul Scholes, a former Manchester United player, will return to Old Trafford in September for the club’s Legends match against Celtic.
The former England international was one of the first two names released in Bryan Robson’s Manchester United roster for the match, which benefits the Manchester United Foundation, with former teammate Nicky Butt.
Scholes and Butt were part of the United ’99 Legends squad that faced Bayern Munich’s Legends team in 2019 to raise funds for the Manchester United Foundation and commemorate the 20th anniversary of their treble-winning Champions League final victory over the Bundesliga team in 1999.
Butt scored United’s third goal of the game in a 5-0 thrashing; the other goals came from David Beckham, Louis Saha, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Dwight Yorke during Sir Alex Ferguson’s most recent time on the Old Trafford bench.
More names will be released as the Red Devils XI prepares to face Paul Lambert’s Celtic XI at Old Trafford on Saturday, September 7.
Although the two teams have only met four times in competitive play, two of which were in the Champions League, with United winning two and Celtic winning one, the two have had a strong friendship for many years. Their most recent match resulted in a 1-1 draw in 2008.
Despite this, some well-known players from both sides, including Roy Keane and Bryan McClair, as well as non-club members Ryan Giggs and Robson, chose them for testimonial games.
Robson, who will be assisted by United treble winner Andy Cole, underlined his enthusiasm for the impending game in a few months, saying: “We’re incredibly excited for this latest confrontation and anticipate the United and Celtic supporters to turn out in force.” They’ll be supporting the Foundation and its wonderful work while enjoying a great afternoon at Old Trafford.
“The competitive edge has always been present in all of the events in which I’ve had the opportunity to participate. Even though some of the players have retired, they have all maintained their will to win, and there have been some amazing games throughout the years. “It gives me tremendous joy to lead the group once more.”
