Total Disaster at Chelsea as Thier top target De Zerbi has rejected the offer to become Chelsea manager this morning

Mauricio Pochettino, who parted ways with Brighton, had a disagreement with Roberto De Zerbi over the acquisition of Ansu Fati last year.

Following just one season, Pochettino left Chelsea after a series of high-profile signings. These included Moises Caicedo, acquired for £100 million, and Romeo Lavia from Southampton, who cost £53 million. However, one potential transfer that did not materialize was that of Barcelona’s winger, Ansu Fati. Despite Pochettino’s reluctance, De Zerbi eventually brought Fati to Brighton, recognizing him as a top-tier Premier League player, suggesting Pochettino had differing views on the player who might replace him.

According to The Athletic, Pochettino rejected Chelsea’s bid to sign the 21-year-old Spaniard. Instead, Fati chose to spend the 2023-24 season with Brighton, temporarily leaving Camp Nou. His move to Brighton was unexpected given his high profile, and De Zerbi spoke highly of him, praising his talent.

De Zerbi expressed his excitement about Fati, stating, “I’m extremely thrilled; he’s a big player. We needed a key guy after losing Enciso. We are fortunate to have many young players with the potential to become elite, taking on additional responsibilities.” He emphasized the importance of managing such talent carefully, acknowledging the responsibility that comes with nurturing football’s heritage.

The 44-year-old manager continued, “I’ve always felt it is my duty to help talented players become outstanding. Football requires exceptional players, but sometimes coaches are more focused on their own careers. I feel a great responsibility to our players, believing our style closely matches Fati’s traits and attributes.”

However, Fati’s stint in England was brief as he struggled with form and injuries, scoring only four goals in thirty games across all competitions. He is expected to return to a Barcelona team managed by Hansi Flick in the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, De Zerbi is a favorite to become Chelsea’s new manager, potentially taking over Pochettino’s former team. Other candidates include Thomas Frank of Brentford and current Leicester boss Enzo Maresca.
