Former Birmingham Coach and Manchester United player Wayne Rooney has been appointed as the manager of this shocking Premier League Club this afternoon, after the club announced the sacking of Thier manager
Wayne Rooney, a Manchester United star, has confirmed that he would balance his European Championship responsibilities with his new role as manager of Plymouth Argyle.
The former United striker returned to management four months after being sacked of his responsibilities as Birmingham City’s head coach. Rooney was a surprising hire at St Andrew’s but was fired after just 83 days in command.
Since leaving the dugout, he has worked as a commentator for Sky Sports and, most recently, the BBC, covering United’s FA Cup victory against Manchester City. However, he will be charged with keeping Argyle in the Championship after Ian Foster was ousted during their relegation struggle this season.
“It’s quite hectic; every day now is a working day, whether it’s here or with the kids, and I certainly have some duties with the European Championships,” he told Argyle TV.
“Ultimately, every day is spent bringing players in, working with coaches to determine how we want to play, and preparing for pre-season training.
“It’s a hectic month, and I’m looking forward to it, but the most exciting part is preseason and getting to work with the players.”
Home Park will be Rooney’s fourth managerial home, following stops with Derby County, DC United, and the Midlands club. The 38-year-old will continue to face pressure on the hot seat following his previous Championship stint, but Rooney feels his transfer to the southwest of England is the ‘right step’.
“I’m quite excited. I believe that going in as Argyle’s new head coach was a more thorough process, with several managers interviewed for the position, and happily, the club believed I was the right person for the job,” said the United great.
“I’m anxious to get started and meet the players, meet the staff, and obviously do a lot of work over the next month before we begin pre-season.”
