Jones stated, “I believe Pep [Guardiola] will not be the only one to goes next season. Kevin De Bruyne presumably has one more season at Manchester City before moving to MLS.
According to reports in February, Kevin De Bruyne had two options for the summer of 2024: sign a contract renewal and retire at City or join the MLS.
With the £54.5 million man’s contract with Manchester City scheduled to end in 2025, he may have made up his mind.
De Bruyne may wish to make a same decision as Kroos.
If Kevin De Bruyne has opted to sign with an MLS team at the conclusion of his contract, he may be approaching his career in the same way that Toni Kroos has.
On Tuesday, Real Madrid’s official website stated that Kroos had decided to retire, with Euro 2024 marking his final appearance in football.
The German is still one of the top players in the world, but he may have wanted to retire on a high note.
While De Bruyne’s retirement plans are unknown, if he joins an MLS team next year, he will leave European sport while still one of the top players in the world.
A club legend, in particular, would not relish being a burden to their squad as their agility and general sharpness deteriorated.
Perhaps Kevin De Bruyne is warming up to the prospect of Phil Foden and Oscar Bobb taking over for him sooner rather than later, as Manchester City’s next generation of offensive midfielders emerges.
