Erig Ten Hag Drags Bruno Fernandez away From Sky Sports Interview As he was discussing his Man United Future
The Portuguese midfielder, who has been one of United’s bright spots in an otherwise disappointing season, returned to the starting lineup for their last home game of the 2023/24 season.
And he was named Player of the Match after producing five opportunities and 11 important passes into the final third, a trademark creative performance from the 29-year-old.
After playing such an important part for United in recent months, a number of teams are lined up to recruit the midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window, according to sources.
The Manchester Evening News reports that Fernandes is ‘attracting attention’ from Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. In fact, Cristiano Ronaldo recently encouraged his Portuguese teammate to join Al Nassr.
Speaking after United’s triumph against Newcastle on Wednesday night, Fernandes discussed their difficult season while emphasizing his desire to win this month’s FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Clearly, the task is not yet complete. We have one more Premier League game before the season’s greatest game, the FA Cup final,” he told Sky Sports.
“This has been a challenging season. The table indicates this, and we are all aware of it. Throughout the season, our supporters have been great and supportive. We all appreciate everything they have done for us.
“We want to do things better and differently, and the fans deserve it.”
Fernandes continued, “They have been fantastic for us, and we had to do something; we have been trying, but the results do not show that. We’ve been working hard, and everyone has done their best, but it’s not enough; we need to do more.”
During the post-match interview, the midfielder was questioned if he would “bring this team to where they want to be.”
“I’ll stay here till I’ve said, the club must want me,” Fernandes stated.
“I believe the club wants me to be a part of the future, therefore as I previously stated, I do not want to be a player the club does not want to have. If they don’t want me, I’ll go, but…
Erik ten Hag then interrupted Fernandes’ speech, pulling him away from the talk so he could participate in the team’s lap of honour.
Moments thereafter, Sky Sports opted to broadcast Ten Hag’s remarks to the crowd at Old Trafford.
The film below shows a sprinkling of booing.
“I want to thank you everyone for your fantastic support during the season,” he stated. “As you know, it was not an easy season, but one thing remained consistent: your support for the club.”
