Major Premier League clubs could potentially be barred from participating in the Champions League for the upcoming season
Why It Is Possible That Manchester United Will Not Be Allowed To Play In Europe Next Year.
After months of conjecture, the 71-year-old entrepreneur Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s purchase of the squad was confirmed in a club statement in December.
Ratcliffe and his INEOS Group bought a 27.7% share in the club after investing over £1 billion; with another £238 million, that proportion will be close to 30%.
Additionally, the INEOS firm owns Nice. Nice, currently in fifth place in Ligue 1, is a French football team heading for Europe.
Teams controlled by the same organisation are not permitted to compete in the same competition, UEFA has now legally stated, despite changes to its statutes.
When SunSport questioned a UEFA insider, they confirmed the information.
“It is logical that Manchester United and Nice cannot participate in the same competition.
“They could play in different competitions, as there is no ‘feeding’ between competitions any more.”
