Arsenal Gunners News

Xavi has confirmed that Barcelona are open to selling a highly-rated player to Arsenal for £70 million this summer.

Arsenal, having made a significant investment in Declan Rice last summer, is now reportedly setting its sights on Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong as a potential summer transfer target. De Jong, who has been a standout performer for Barcelona, is also rumored to be sought after by other clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool.

According to Sam Dean of The Telegraph, speaking on Charles Watt’s podcast, De Jong could be a dream signing for Arsenal, particularly given Barcelona’s financial struggles. Dean emphasized De Jong’s suitability for Arsenal’s system under Mikel Arteta, highlighting his understanding of the style of football the manager wants to play. He also suggested that Barcelona’s financial difficulties might create an opportunity for Arsenal to pursue the Dutch midfielder.

Recognizing Barcelona’s financial challenges, Dean proposed that De Jong might be open to a move, especially considering reports that Barcelona had previously considered selling him to Manchester United. Dean envisioned an ideal midfield for Arsenal featuring Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, and Frenkie de Jong, a combination that would undoubtedly excite Arsenal fans due to the added depth and quality it would bring to the team.

With a price tag of £70 million, reflecting his status as one of the world’s best midfielders, De Jong remains a desirable target for Arsenal. Simon Collings, another journalist, has also indicated that De Jong would be a player Arteta would be eager to bring to the club. Arsenal’s interest in De Jong underscores their ambition to strengthen their squad with top-quality players.

Given Barcelona’s financial challenges, the possibility of signing De Jong could indeed become a reality for Arsenal, offering an enticing prospect for both the club and its supporters.
