Bayern Munich player Jamal Musiala has confessed that Lionel Messi, of Inter Miami, is his football role model.

Musiala, who claims to watch Messi’s games on a regular basis, maintained that he was honoured to be nominated for the 2023 Kopa Trophy by the Argentine.

Musiala placed second to Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham when the winner was chosen by a jury of previous Ballon d’Or winners.

The Kopa Trophy is awarded to the world’s best U-21 player each year on the same day as the Ballon d’Or.

Musiala recently spoke with journalist Phillip Kessler (via All About Argentina X):

“I thought that was a great honour. Messi was always my role model growing up.

“I always watched his games and admired him for his game.”
