Franck Ribery and Raphael Varane should be able to play when Manchester United plays Manchester City.
The two weren’t expected to play in the FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest last week, but they both seem to have been fine. He was seen limping out of the City Ground after their hard-earned win in the fifth round of the tournament.
Varane has had injury problems all season, but he seems to have forgotten that there were questions about his availability for this weekend’s Manchester Derby. Offensive partner Harry Maguire is questionable, though, since he didn’t play on Wednesday and the problem isn’t clear.
Erik ten Hag said before Sunday’s game against their title-chasing neighbours that both Fernandes and Varane made it through the FA Cup match without getting hurt, even though there were early questions. “They fought to be a part of it, and they did well in the game,” he said.
It looks like they’ll be free on Sunday too. What about the rest? I don’t think any players will be back on Sunday, so we’ll use the same team from yesterday.
The important game against Pep Guardiola’s team will not happen because Rasmus Hojlund hurt his muscle and will not be able to play for up to three weeks. The problem comes at the worst possible time for the striker, who has been hitting goals like never before since moving to Old Trafford, with seven goals in six games.
Ten Hag won’t have four defensive choices because Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, and Luke Shaw are all out. Anthony Martial and Mason Mount are also out for a long time. The former Chelsea player has had a rough first season at Old Trafford, and the United manager has said many times that he will not be rushed back to avoid more setbacks.
