Coming From Fabrizio Romano this Morning VERY SAD Mauricio Pochettino News has been announced by Club Owner Todd Boehly
Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media following Chelsea’s goalless draw with Aston Villa. The Blues will travel to Villa Park to play the FA Cup fourth round replay after failing to break the tie on Friday evening.
Pochettino’s team, who had scored six goals against Middlesbrough earlier in the week, were unable to recreate that form in front of an expectant Stamford Bridge crowd. Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer both had excellent chances for Chelsea, but they were unable to overcome Emiliano Martinez, who was in inspirational form.
Pochettino will now prepare his men for a very difficult test against Liverpool next week, when the Blues return to Premier League action at Anfield. However, there will be time for some reflections on the draw. Bobby Vincent transcribed everything Pochettino said after the match.
What is your reaction to Jurgen Klopp’s decision to stand down at the conclusion of the season?
“I was astonished since I was working a little bit before the game when I saw the news. Very sad since we already miss him. And then, when we were fired from Tottenham, the first communication I got was from him. That is not the case; I did not send him a note, but I will be able to express my gratitude and respect on Wednesday.
“I think he was doing an outstanding job at Liverpool. We will miss him, but he deserves to recover and get away. Yes, I believe this is bad news for football. He’s a fantastic character, man, and coach; English football will undoubtedly miss him, as will Liverpool.
What will be his legacy?
“It is evident. When he arrived, his first game was against Tottenham at White Hart Lane. I believe we played in October 2015, with a score of 0-0. The legacy is immense. His charisma, ability to manage, and develop with an incredible club like Liverpool, with their own philosophy and history, is present.
“I need to applaud him and everyone involved, including his coaching staff. They totally deserve the reward they will win from now until the end of the season.”
Does that outcome [against. Aston Villa] show you’re still missing something up front?
“Yes, but on both sides, no? They have excellent players in attack, a variety of players, and they did not score, while we held a clean sheet. These types of games are even, and playing against a side like Aston Villa is always challenging. Of course, we did not score, but we did create opportunities.
“I trust and believe in my players; we will undoubtedly score if we continue to play like this. We had scored six on Tuesday. Emiliano, I believe, is an excellent custodian. Yes, sometimes you need a little luck to score.
How severe is Levi Colwill’s injury?
“No, we do not believe it is that bad. He had a minor issue with which he was uncomfortable. We had discussed not starting with him, but he was eager to play. Then he felt something, but it wasn’t a big deal. “I hope he can train tomorrow.”
How good has Petrovic been?
“He’s doing great. I believe he deserves full credit because he joined Chelsea this season from the MLS. He’s really young and doing well. I believe his performance in the goal demonstrates his ability and character. I think he’s doing an incredible job.”
How do you think Alfie [Gilchrist] performed under the circumstances [replacing Colwill before the game]?
“Very good. One of the most challenging aspects of stress management is that he knew he wasn’t going to play and then decided to play. You occasionally give the starting XI to the young guys and think too much, which can cause tension. However, because it was 20 minutes or half an hour before the game, you might have overthought things.
“All of the young people need time to be calm and relaxed, and not spend so much energy thinking about the game.” He was quite good. He played well, and he will improve.”
Does the fact that he replied so nicely increase your trust in him?
“Of course.” I believe it is significant for his career. He has to compete with other players in his position. We are providing him this opportunity. It is critical that youth players receive the opportunity to play and demonstrate their readiness to play for Chelsea. We’ll see if he can meet our expectations. We are quite pleased with the manner he is producing.”

Was it important to demonstrate today as a team that you can perform at a high level?
“I believe we demonstrated our ability to compete during the first six to seven months of the season. We demonstrated our competitiveness against Liverpool in the season’s first game, as well as against Arsenal, City, and Tottenham. We demonstrated this in too many games.
“Our problem in the first half of the season, or the first seven months, was that we didn’t demonstrate consistency in doing it game after game. Now it appears that we are performing more consistently. Only the defeat against Middlesbrough away from home was unsatisfactory [performance]. That is how we want to compete, by improving, and now we have a fantastic opportunity to play Aston Villa and compete. It will be beneficial for this young club to have the opportunity to demonstrate our ability to compete against a Premier League team that is performing well and is in the top four. I believe that is vital for our confidence.”
