“His performance yesterday was top notch but he was stingy with ball and does not attack the opposition when he gives the ball away” – Pep Guardiola slams £60 Million city Player
Behind the scenes, this is the only thing Manchester City doesn’t like about Phil Foden
Manchester City beat Everton 3-1 on Merseyside thanks in large part to a great performance by Phil Foden.
It was a great game from the England player, and Pep Guardiola must have been very happy.
But, according to The Athletic, there is still one thing that people at Manchester City don’t like about Phil Foden…
The one thing that Manchester City doesn’t like about Phil Foden
This isn’t something that most managers would care too much about, but Guardiola isn’t like most coaches.
A report from The Athletic says that people inside Manchester City think Foden is not making a lot of progress in controlling his natural desire to attack the other team.
He is said to want a little more control and would rather have the No. 47 for Manchester City make the less interesting choice sometimes if it means the Citizens keep the ball.
Of course, this isn’t the harshest thing we’ve ever heard said about a football player.
Fans of Manchester City and even people who don’t care about the team will be glad to hear that Foden is almost refusing to change into a robotic system player and keep his natural attacking purpose.
How well Phil Foden played against Everton
At Goodison Park, Foden’s desire to attack whenever he wanted was clear to everyone. Alan Shearer, who was commentating for Amazon Prime, was clearly pleased.
WhoScored shows that the graduate of the City Football Academy had seven shots on goal, which was more than anyone else on the game. He also made three important passes and scored one goal.
Foden also played three good dribbles, but there were signs of the problems we talked about earlier because he didn’t make a single defensive play—no tackles, interceptions, blocks, or clearances.
Still, Rodri and others are able to do that job.
Foden will keep starting for Guardiola as long as he keeps playing so well in attack, like he did on Merseyside.
