Citing a lack of vitality during his time at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool at the end of the season on Friday morning.
After leaving Liverpool, Klopp made it clear that he had no desire to manage any other English teams, including Manchester United, Arsenal, or Chelsea. Even though he guided Liverpool to a strong start to the season, Klopp made a startling admission about his level of energy.
The former manager of Borussia Dortmund announced his intention to step away from managing any other club or nation for a minimum of one year. He also dismissed the possibility of a long-term comeback to the Premier League. During a Sky Sports interview, Klopp clarified, “I need to find a different purpose as well.”
“Will you ever work as a manager again?” is a question I would ask. Right now, I’d say no. However, I have never been in that circumstance, so I’m not sure how that will feel. But I am positive that I will never, ever manage a club in England other than Liverpool. That isn’t achievable.
My feelings for the members of this club are too deep to ignore. There’s no way I could even consider it for a second. My family and I consider Liverpool to be our home, therefore there’s no way I would think about managing anywhere else.
In reference to returning to work, Klopp said, “I know I can’t just sit around and waste time, but I’ll look into other options.” But for a minimum of a year, I will not be managing a country or a club. It’s not practical, and I have no desire to accomplish it.
Klopp went on to clarify that he thought it was his “responsibility” to decide his future, even if he knew that his position at Liverpool protected him from the possibility of being fired.
A former midfielder for Liverpool, Xabi Alonso is a serious candidate to succeed Klopp at Anfield because of his outstanding play this season with Bayer Leverkusen. The head coach of Al-Ettifaq, Steven Gerrard, and manager Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton have also been linked to the soon-to-be open post. When the news of Klopp’s leaving has subsided later in the season, other possible candidates should come to light.
